We have questioned, for so long, what to do or who to call when there are animal control issues. Finally, after all of the major changes that have been made, the County has provided us the vital information on what to actually do.
We’ve compiled everything and included the poster that’s been circulating throughout social media, below.
How To Read It...
Calls are triaged to dispatch by priority levels, with 1 being the most urgent need for assistance. There are also different contact numbers for each priority level and required information that will be asked of you. The lists below has potential and most probable scenarios that one may come across and might present a need for services.
PRIORITY LEVEL 1 CALLS:
1 HOUR RESPONSE TIME AND QUALIFIES FOR AFTER-HOURS FIELD RESPONSE
-LOOSE DOG IN ROAD THAT IS A PUBLIC SAFETY RISK
-ANY INJURED ANIMAL ENCOUNTER
-DOG IS AN IMMEDIATE THREAT
(I.E, JUST BIT SOMEONE)
(IMMEDIATE THREAT TO ANIMAL’S LIFE)
-OWNER IS ARRESTED/DECEASED
-CONTACT DISPATCH AT (808) 935-3311 AND PROVIDE AS MUCH DETAILED INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE, SUCH AS:
SPECIES OF ANIMAL
COLORS/MARKING/GENDER (IF POSSIBLE)
EXACT OR APPROXIMATE LOCATION
A BRIEF AND TO THE POINT DESCRIPTION OF WHAT HAPPENED
-THEN ASK THEM TO RELAY THE INFORMATION TO ANIMAL CONTROL
PRIORITY LEVEL TWO CALLS:
LOST AND FOUND
SAME DAY RESPONSE, DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR AFTER-HOURS FIELD RESPONSE
-FOUND A HEALTHY ANIMAL
-LOST AN ANIMAL
-CALL HAWAI’I COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL DIRECTLY AT (808) 327-3558. THEY WILL BE ABLE TO SCAN THE ANIMAL FOR A MICROCHIP AND SEARCH FOR THE OWNERS
-SECURE THE ANIMAL AND POST PICTURES OF THE ANIMAL ON:
-IF A STRAY ANIMAL IS FOUND AND CANNOT BE KEPT, CALL ANIMAL CONTROL DIRECTLY AT (808) 327-3558
-POST YOUR LOST PET ON
-POST YOUR LOST PET ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND PUT UP FLIERS IN THE AREA
PRIORITY LEVEL THREE:
NO IMMEDIATE THREAT
SAME DAY CONTACT WITH REPORTING PARTY, DELAYED FIELD RESPONSE
-ANIMAL CRUELTY/NEGLECT INVESTIGATIONS & DANGEROUS DOG (NOT ACTIVELY A THREAT)
-DECEASED ANIMALS IN THE ROADWAY
-CAT IN TRAP
-CALL DISPATCH WITH LOCATION AT (808) 935-3311.
-ON COUNTY ROAD:
CALL DPW HIGHWAYS DIVISION AT
-ON STATE HIGHWAY/ROAD:
