1- Mauna Lani Culinary Classic (Thur., Aug.29-Mon. Sept. 2; all day, Waimea): Returning for its second year, the Mauna Lani Culinary Classic is a four-day food celebration featuring James Beard Award-winning chefs. In partnership with Blue Ribbon Restaurants and non-profit organization Māla`ai: The Culinary Garden of Waimea Middle School, this one-of-a-kind festival connects chefs, sommeliers, mixologists, friends and neighbors in the spirit of culinary creativity. 2– Queen Lili’uokalani Canoe Race (Thur., Aug. 29-Mon., Sept. 2; times vary, Kailua-Kona): Gather this week for the World’s Largest Long Distance Canoe Race set to take place in Kailua-Kona. Since 1972, the Queen Lili’uokalani Race has been bringing together Na Wahine O Ke Kai (Women) and the Molokai Hoe (Men) long distance canoe races from the island of Moloka’i to the island of Oahu. Today the long distance race along the Kailua-Kona coast brings together more than 2,500 paddlers from all over the world. See a list of the full event here.
3-Liam Moleta 2023 Richard Ho’opi’i Falsetto Champion (Fri., Aug. 30; 6:15-7:15 p.m., Keauhou): Head the the Keauhou Shopping Center this Friday for a special Fifth Friday event featuring the 2023 Falsetto Champion, Liam Moleta. 5-Wa’a Kaukahi, 18 Miles (Sat, Aug. 31; 6 a.m.-12 p.m., Kailua-Kona): Gather at the Kailua Pier in Kona along Ali’i Drive Saturday morning and witness as thousands of paddlers enter the water and race 18 miles to Honaunau Bay. Learn more here.
