The Best Upcoming Big Island Events: Friday May 24th to Thursday May 30th

Aloha Big Island Pulse readers! Welcome to another week of the Top 10 events to look forward to on Big Island as we close out the last week of May heading into summer. 

While the keiki get ready to wind down their school year and prepare for a summer filled with fun and adventure, we have a list for you to look forward to with your family and friends before summer is in full effect. 

This week you can head to Honoka’a for Western Week, enjoy an improv trio at the Puna Chocolate Company from 7 pm until 9 pm on Friday, or check out Hawai’i’s own Robert Cazimero performing in Waimea this Saturday. 

So after finals and graduation this week, pack your bags, cooler, and car and head on out to one of these lively Big Island events.

Honoka’a Western Week (HAPPENING NOW – Honoka’a): It’s that time of the year again – Honoka’a Western Week! Celebrate paniolo culture and lifestyle with music, dance, talk story and fun. Check out the full schedule here.  

HI-larious Show at Puna Chocolate (Fri., May 24, from 7pm until 9 pm in Kona): Check out Kona’s newest improv group in a premier show at the Puna Chocolate Company location in Kona. Tickets include hand-crafted cocktails or non-alcoholic beverages. Seats are limited to 30 individuals. Tickets are $20. Learn more here.

Robert Cazimero (Sat., May 25; 7pm, Waimea): Hawaiʻi’s revered and beloved kumu hula, singer, songwriter, and entertainer, Robert Cazimero, will continue his 38-year tradition of performing LIVE at Kahilu on Saturday. As is tradition, Robert offers viewers a memorable evening of music, hula, and storytelling.Tickets range and start at $40. Learn more here.

Paint ‘N Sip at Big Island Meadery (Sat. May 25; 1pm-4pm, Keeau): Looking to be creative while sipping on some locally-made Hawaiian mead (honey wine)? Head down to the Big Island Meadery in Keaau this weekend and learn from talented instructors on how to paint your masterpiece. Price is $65 and includes a flight of mead tasting and one glass of your favorite mead. Learn more here

Weldon Kekauoha LIVE MUSIC UMEKES (Sun., May 26; 6pm to 8:30 pm, Kona): The live music never stops on Big Island! On Sunday, you can catch Weldon Kekauoha live at Umekes in Kona until 8:30 pm. Learn more here

Qigong Class (Mon., May 27; 8 am-9am, Kona): Looking for a way to relax your mind and body? Try a qigong class at the Old Airport on Hawai’i Island. Enjoy this meditative practice for free. Donations are welcome. Learn more on FB here.

Installation Luncheon (Tue., May 28; 1130am-2pm, Hilo): Calling all Hilo Women’s Club members and guests! There will be an installation luncheon on Tuesday where the new Board of Directors will be announced as well as their scholarship winners. Cost is $35 and includes lunch. When Bad Things Happen to Good Actors (Wed., May 29; 7pm-930pm, Kona): The Aloha Teen Theatre is showcasing its next endeavor – When Bad Things Happen to Good Actors. Kicking off at 7 pm for $10, enjoy the 30 minute performance that is a simple, one-act production of The Wizard of Oz when it gets derailed by missed cues, forgotten lines, and a renegade sound board op who refuses to play anything but dinosaur noises. Bass Bias & Coloso (Thur., May 30; 530-close, Kawaihae): Head to the Blue Dragon Tavern in Kawaihae and check out a double feature of Bass Bias and Kevin Coloso for a night of eclectic music to feed your soul. Bass Bias features the dynamic bass playing duo of Delphina Dorrance on upright bass and Dave Ojeda on electric bass. Kevin Coloso is an ukulele player and singer songwriter from Maui. Cosmic Drive (Thur. May 30; 5pm-10pm, Hilo): Head on down to Hawai’i’s only interactive glow target golf at the Grand Naniloa this Thursday. Enjoy golf, drinks, food, music and more. Price varies but cost is generally $48 per lane per hour. Learn more here
