There’s a wave of exciting events happening throughout the island over the next several days.

Check out amazing acts by some of Big Island’s top musicians, including Lightning Larry Dupio and Kenny T, or grab the family and stop by Revitalize Puna or the 47th Annual Shakespeare in the Park this Saturday.

1- Lightning Larry Dupio at the Blue Dragon Tavern (Thur., July, 11; 6:30 p.m.- 9:30 p.m., Kawaihae): Inspired by talented Blues Masters such as Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker, Lightning Larry Dupio is known for his own unique blues-infused rhythms. He is a Two-Time, Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award Winner. You can see him live this Thursday at The Blue Dragon Tavern in Kawaihae. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Learn more here.

2 – Mele Nahenahe with Shaun Gomban (Thur., July 11; 6 p.m.- 8:30 p.m., Umekes Fish Market Bar & Grill in Kailua-Kona): Shaun Gomban plays this Thursday evening at Umekes Fish Market Bar & Grill in Kailua-Kona. Expect a mix of eclectic covers, originals and Hawaiian melodies. Enjoy local grindz designed by owner and head Chef Nakoa Pabre. Learn more here.

3-IMAGINING Kīpuka (Fri., July 12-Aug. 3; 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., The Donkey Mill Art Center in Hōlualoa): Explore the work of 35 students between the ages of 6 and 18 during this exhibit. The theme is kīpuka—an area of land that is surrounded by younger lava flows. Mina Elison and Gerald Lucena, in collaboration with contributing teaching artists, curated the event. Contributing teaching artists include Angaea Cuna, Puakea Forester, Tomoko Nakazato, Theresa Lovering-Brown, Hunter Buck, Seb Choe, Gerald Lucena, Miho Morinoue, Paulina Castillo and Lilikoi Yod.  4- Kenny T at Keauhou Shopping Center (Fri., July 12; 6 p.m.-7 p.m., Keauhou): Check out live music from Kona’s own Kenny Tagavilla and his talented son Koa. Kenny T is up for multiple Nā Hoku Hanohano Awards for his debut album ‘Kona Grown.’ Learn more here.

5-2024 Hilo Brewfest (Sat., July 13; 2 p.m.- 5 p.m., Hilo Yacht Club): The Rotary Club of Hilo is holding the 11th Annual Brewfest on Saturday. This fundraiser supports the local community, Friends of the Childrens Justice Center of East Hawai’i, Hilo Medical Center Family Medicine Residency program, and many more. Expect 40 Breweries, food from 15 local restaurants and live music.  Tickets start at $75. Learn more here.

6-Hōlualoa Bay Beach Clean Up (Sat., July 13; 9 a.m.-noon, Kailua-Kona): Join the effort to clean up our beaches during this event at Lymans and Banyans along Ali’i Drive. Register online at cleanrewards.org or in person at the check-in station on Saturday.

7-Revitalize Puna (Sat., July 13; 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Pāhoa): Stop by the Pāhoa District Park Gym on Saturday and enjoy a free lunch from local vendors, connect with local government representatives, and get updates on road restoration projects with the Department of Public Works. Learn more here. Expect a welcome speech by Hawai’i County Mayor Mitch Roth.

8 -Men on Boats Audition Workshop (Sat., July 13; 1 p.m.-3 p.m., Kealakekua): Learn what the Aloha Theater expects during an audition, including how to talk to the production team, what to wear and what n0t to wear, and how and what to prepare for when you tryout. Cost is $25. Learn more here.

 
9-Chef Vitaly Paley’s Family Style French Provincial (Sat., July 13; 6 p.m., 73-4976 Kamanu St suite 105 in Kailua-Kona): Participate in this chef’s table and welcome Chef Vitaly Paley, a James Beard award winner and an Iron Chef. Indulge in classic French dishes and sauces featuring delights such as grand aioli provençale, Dungeness crab-stuffed Hawaiian kanpachi, and selle d’agneau. Register ahead of time and learn more here. $179 per person. 
10-47th Annual Shakespeare in the Park (Sat., July 12; 7:30 p.m., University of Hawai’i at Hilo Performing Arts Center lawn at 200 W. Kāwili St., Hilo): Coming up this weekend and lasting until July 28, catch the 47th Annual Shakespeare in the Park production. The Big Island show stars Hilo talent Sean Douglas, Wilfred Gee, Saul Rollason and Theon Weber, with special guest John Kooistra. There also will be more shows at 7:30 p.m., Aug. 2-3 and 2:30 p.m on Aug. 4 at the Honokaʻa Sports Complex located at 45-541 Lehua St. in Honokaʻa. Admission is free. Donations appreciated. Guests are encouraged to bring their own necessities for the outdoor performances. Learn more here.
11- International Shark Day Films in Kona/Benefit for Miloli’i (Sat., July 13; 4 p.m.-7 p.m., Elks Lodge in Kailua-Kona): Join Shark Stewards celebrating sharks for International Shark Day. This event will includes Kahu Manō Kona Premiere, with the film team featuring Kahu Ka’imi Kaupiko of Miloli’i Kalanhale, Manō, an animation by Brittany Biggs, The Last Opelu Man Bryce Groark featuring Uncle Chuck Leslie in-person, and more shark fun for the keiki!  Hosted by the Elks Lodge Kona. $10 suggested donation. Event will benefit Kalanihale.org, the community education organization of Miloli’i. Learn more here.

12-Sunday at the Stables (Sun., July 14; 10 a.m.-3 p.m.,Waikōloa Stables): Come meet Big Island artists. There will be pottery, painting, photography, beadwork, jewelry and more. Learn more on FB here.

13-Open Mic Night at the Hilo Town Tavern (Mon., July 15; 7 p.m.-10 p.m., Hilo): Every Monday you can catch live music, poetry, and art at the Hilo Town Tavern for the weekly open mic night. Free to enter.

14-Weldon Kekauoha at Huggo’s (Tue., July 16; 5 p.m.-close, Huggo’s in Kailua-Kona): More live music for west side residents. Hear multiple award-winning musician Weldon Kekauoha at Huggo’s hBar on Tuesday. Weldon is a Grammy Award nominated, multi Na Hoku Hanohano Award winning Hawaiian singer, songwriter, and recording artist. Happy Hour is from 4 p.m.- 5 p.m. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. Learn more here.

15-John Keawe in Concert at the Kīlauea Visitor Center (Wed., July 17; 7 p.m.-8 p.m., Kīlauea Visitor Center in Volcano): Listen to Hawaiian music by John Keawe, a kihoʻalu (slack-key) guitarist, composer and recording artist. A Grammy-award winner, John Keawe is a well known local performer, born in Hāwī in North Kohala, with multiple Nā Hoku Hanohano music awards under his belt. This event is part of the Nā Leo Manu “Heavenly Voices of Hawaiian Music” concerts and presentations and is co-sponsored by Hawaiʻi Pacific Parks Association. Free, but park entrance fees apply. Asato Family Shop Pop Up (Fri., July 12; 3 p.m.- 6 p.m., KTA Puainako in Hilo): Try Asato Family Shop’s first-ever no added sugar sorbet flavor, Mango Māmaki, in collaboration with Shaka Tea and hosted at KTA Super Stores in Puainako in Hilo. Youth Saturdays at East Hawai’i Cultural Center in Hilo (Sat., July 13; 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Hilo): This is an AYAS² collaboration with Keiki Labs. Participating keiki will be making beads out of recycled water bottles. Learn more here.
Swap Meet (Sat., July 13; 7 a.m.-11 a.m., Hawaiian Paradise Park): See what’s for sale at this swap meet on the east side this weekend.
Rummage Sale (Sat., July 13; 8 a.m.- 2p.m., Hilo): Shop for a good cause at this upcoming rummage sale at the Hilo United Methodist Church.
Shakespeare Shorts (Sat. & Sun., July 13-15; 4 p.m. & 5 p.m., Hilo): Catch some Shakespeare Shorts as part of the Hilo Community Player’s production starting this Saturday at 4 p.m. at the UH Hilo Performing arts Center Lawn.
3rd Annual Cause for Paws (Sat., July 13; 9 a.m.- 2 p.m., Hilo): Head to the Waiākea High School Gym this weekend for a special fundraising event for ‘Īlio Rescue.

Chicago at the Palace Theater (Sat., July 13- Sun., July 14; 7 p.m. in Hilo): Only a couple shows left. Make sure to head to the Palace Theater in downtown Hilo and catch the last few acts of the acclaimed Chicago series. Learn more here.
Community Feeding ( Sat., July 13; 4:30 p.m., Hilo): Head down to the Mo’oheau Bandstand and help those in need this Saturday.
