Coming up we have PRIDE happenings in downtown Hilo, the opening night of “Chicago” at the Palace Theater, and a classic car show at the Queens’ Marketplace on the island’s west side.

1 – A Return to the Stork Club at the Blue Dragon Tavern & Musiquarium (Thur., June 27; 5p.m.-7:30 p.m., Kawaihae): Join festival favorites Ashley Lambert, Justin John Moniz, Phil Kadet, and Jason Gamer in a return to the historic Stork Club. Check out these “intrepid performers” with their “rock ’em, sock ’em blend.” Venture back to 1929 for this historic season opener. Food and drink available for purchase. Times listed indicate when seating begins. The performance will begin approximately 30 minutes thereafter. Tickets are $75 for general admission. Learn more here.
2-Aloha Fridays at Volcano Art Center (Fri., June 28; 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Volcano): Aloha Friday cultural demonstrations are held every Friday, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the porch of Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. This month’s offerings include, lei making with Kaipo Ah Chong, kapa stamping with Desiree Moana Cruz, lauhala Weaving with Kuʻuipo Morales, and ʻukulele with Wes Awana. These free cultural events are supported in part by Hawai’i State GIA Wai Wai Program. Learn more here.
3-Chicago the Musical (Fri., June 28; 7 p.m., Hilo): The Palace Theater is hosting the Hilo Education Arts Repertory Theatre (HEART)’s production of the beloved musical “Chicago.” In roaring twenties Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap, until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another “Merry Murderess,” Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the “American Dream.” This sharp-edged satire features a dazzling score that sparked immortal staging by Bob Fosse. Show will run June 28 and 29, and again on July 5, 6,12 and 13th at 7 p.m. Catch an earlier show at 3 p.m. on June 30, and July 7 and the 14th. Learn more here. Tickets are $25.
4- Hilo PRIDE (Sat., June 29; 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Hilo): This weekend marks the annual PRIDE celebration in downtown Hilo. Head to the Mo’oheau Bandstand this Saturday to celebrate the annual Pride Festival complete with food and shopping vendors, performances, live music, a keiki tent, and more. 5 -Hawaiian Cultural Festival & 63rd Anniversary Celebration (Sat., June 29; 9 a.m.- 3 p.m., Pu‘uhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park): This year’s 63rd Annual Hawaiiian Cultural Festival and Anniversary Celebration includes the theme Ulu Ka ‘Ōhiʻa a Lau Ka Wai. On Saturday, participants will focus on the importance of the island’s forests to our water cycle and the many ecosystems that it supports. 6- Cruize Paradise (Sat., June 29; 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Waikōloa): The Cruize Paradise Car Show at the Waikōloa Queens’ Marketplace is back this weekend. Bring the family for an unforgettable day with the Hawaii Classic Cruizers. Enjoy live music while viewing a stunning array of vintage and modern beauties. Learn more here.
