Yes, it is true! The coveted summer activity list for 2021 has made its way back to Big Island Pulse! We got the comprehensive list of programs for all ages and in most districts of the island. While the list is shorter due to the availability and restrictions of the pandemic, the compilation below highlights what is currently listed. Spots are limited and predicted to fill up quickly, so be sure to sign your keiki up ASAP.

Keiki will join our talented local artists for creative adventures. In this year’s summer session, the YAS team of skilled instructors will guide young artists through the process of learning a variety of mediums. Our student artists will create their own works of art while learning basic technical skills behind each medium. They will also learn the importance of teamwork and collaboration. Class topics include papermaking, printmaking, and mixed media sculpture.

The Donkey Mill Art Center offers educational and stimulating classes and programs through versatile media of art. All Abilities Classes provide inclusion experiences for those with developmental disabilities and those who do not, once a week. Boys and Girls Club of Hawai’i

YMCA New Horizons Summer Youth Day Camp

YMCA Sailing Program

Learn sailing, seamanship and water safety from our sailing club located in Kawaihae. It is our goal to build a program that serves the community and expands recreational opportunities in Kawaihae.
Hawai’i County Summer Fun Program
Locations: Multiple sites across the island
Ages: Completed K through Grade 6
Dates: June 7- July 16
Times: 8A-2P
Cost: $100 per child. Spaces are extremely limited with only 30 spots available.

The programs will consist of various activities including arts and crafts projects, indoor/outdoor games, sports, music, nature exploration, swimming, special events and excursions- just a reminder, they all vary depending on the site. Tentatively, a free lunch program is being planned with snacks being optional. In the event of the free lunch program being unavailable, participants must bring their own lunch daily.

Project Hawai’i Summer Camps

Day camps provided for children between the ages of 3-18 years old, various activities geared towards island exploration that provides an opportunity for youth to learn more about their environment.
Science Camps of America: Land & Sea, Air & Space
Location: Pahala
Ages: 13-17 years old
Dates: Land & Sea: July 1-10, Air & Space: July 11-July 20
Times: 2 weeks/overnight
Cost: $2,395 registration fee, discount/financial aid available.

Land & Sea Camp explores earth science as you’ve never experienced it before! Active volcanoes, beautiful reefs, recent lava flows and black and green sand beaches are your classroom. In the Air & Space Camp, you will gaze upon the stars from Mauna Kea, home of some of the largest observatories in the world. You will also learn about space science, space exploration, our atmosphere, climate and climate change!!
Kama’aina Kids Intercession and Summer Program

St. Joseph’s Hilo Summer Program/Kama’aina Kids

Themed program for 2021 is “A Summer Full of Wonder”. Which is build around enriching and on-site activities focusing on the world around us. Each week will include a variety of experiences, which are planned by our staff and aimed at each child’s social emotional learning.
