The Big Island Beekeepers Association’s (BIBA) mission is to assist fellow beekeepers; to educate beekeepers and the public in matters related to honey bees and beekeeping; to cooperate in marketing honey bee products; to provide community service related to bee issues; to promote beekeeping by creating a positive image of honey bees, beekeeping and bee products.

This month we will be hosting Dr. Ethel Villalobos from the UH Honeybee Project to come talk story with us, to discuss progress, frustrations, and some exciting new avenues for beekeepers in Hawaii. Dr. Villalobos will be sharing some of their newest findings on Natural Varroa Resistance. Find out what our bees are doing and how we can help foster good bees in Hawaii!
And in light of finishing up the 11th Annual Hawaiian Honey Challenge, we will be bringing the 1st place entries to the Komohana Senior Center for taste testing !
Our monthly meeting will take place both online via Zoom and in person at the Kamana Senior Center in Hilo (127 Kamana Dr., Hilo HI 96720). Doors and meeting link open/go live at 6PM Hawaii time, with presentation to begin at 6:30PM.
In observance with health and safety precautions, we ask that for our potluck at the Senior Center, if you bring food, please try to bring things in individualized portions. Please wear a mask when making a plate and do not gather too long around the communal food area. Utensils and hand sanitizer will be provided!
