This month, we will be hosting the Hawaii Department of Agriculture for an overview and update on the Christmas Berry bio-control project. They’ll also provide a history of the plant in Hawaii, its importance to the beekeeping community, information on the thrips insect, and how trials in other parts of the world are going. The introduction of the Pseudophilothrips ichini thrips was proposed as a means of curbing the growth of the invasive Christmas Berry plant. Testing for host specificity in Hawaii is complete and an Environmental Assessment is in progress. Read more about the topic here:
