Help us in welcoming our guest speaker Dr. Mogren for the July 13th BIBA Meeting !

Since December 2017, Dr. Chrissy Mogren has been an Assistant Specialist at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa in the Department of Plant and Environmental Protection Sciences, with a research and extension emphasis on honey bee health and pollination ecology in Hawaii. Her research deals with the effects of nutrition and dietary diversity on the health of honey bees in an emerging field known as conservation physiology.

She will give a presentation on Best Management Practices for beekeepers, specifically in the context of detecting and treating foulbrood diseases, which have existed in Hawaii since the 1920s. Since 2012, the majority of foulbrood outbreaks have been on the Big Island. As the diseases have evolved, so have their symptoms which makes diagnosis trickier for beekeepers. This presentation will give you the skills necessary to identify early on the symptoms of foulbrood in your colonies.
