Hilo, Hawai’i is like no place else. What does it mean to grow up here, to leave, to come home? A dynamic storytelling performance devised by Erin Healani Chung, LONG WAY HOME is a personal exploration of the meaning of home and belonging here on Hawai’i Island. Featuring special guest performers and live music from the Hilo Honeys, LONG WAY HOME speaks to all of us who are lucky enough to call Hawai’i Island home – no matter if you grew here or flew here.

Erin Healani Chung, a native of Hawai’i Island, is an actor and multi-disciplinary storyteller. She received her BA in Theatre from UH Manoa, trained at Atlantic Acting School in New York City and is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA. In 2023 she was selected by Vibrant Hawai’i to participate in a year-long fellowship created with support from One Nation/ One Project, a national initiative designed to show how participation in the arts leads to healthier people and communities.

On July 27, 2024 One Nation/ One Project campaign Arts for Everybody will bring together people and communities in 18 cities and towns across the U.S. to simultaneously premiere an array of large-scale, site-specific participatory art projects along the theme of “No Place Like Home.” These artist-led community-cased public art works will provide a chance to dance, sing, draw and create together – spurring joy and social bonding at a time of extreme social polarization.

With generous support from the Palace Theater, Vibrant Hawai’i and One Nation/ One Project, this is a FREE EVENT, but tickets must be reserved in advance.
