Friday, June 21st 6-10PM at The Venue, (a new events space in Hilo-Town) will be hosting their second live music series called “Ladies That Rock”. Co-hosting this epic 21+ event will be Big Island comic, Nani Milimilianalani.
The night will be pumping with music, dancing and unforgettable punchlines with the help of Big Island Comedy Theater.
Featured artists:
Blue Horizon: with Tina Garber and Hawk Devi. They enjoy diverging from the norm by delving into various music genres and infusing Americana roots. Tina has performed music from Alaska to Guatemala, while Hawk has been a musician for more than fifty years and has played music across the globe.
Hannah Kaplon: is a singer/songwriter raised on the Big Island of Hawaii. She has been writing original music since she was a child and has performed all over Hawaii, New York and New Zealand. Her original recordings can be found anywhere you stream music.
Shayna Cohen: Not all heroes wear capes, Shayna loves the earth and saves it in the day-time and sings through the night. As an up-and-coming powerhouse, her mission is to spread some good and positive vibes through classic songs and originals.
A Tree Within: A Tree Within is the musical project of singer-songwriter Junko Nozawa. Junko’s musical style derives from her diverse heritage and upbringing, drawing from Chilean folkloric music, classical music, rock, and other influences. Her songs take listeners on a poetic journey from the shores of the Big Island to the Atacama desert, and then into a dreamscape of mythical and war-torn places.
Junko will be accompanied by Hawk Devi on the violin, Alex Imm on bass, and Tommy Osuna (http://tommyosuna.com/) on percussion. The set will also feature a special dance performance by Xia Greenberg and Grace Scanlan. You can follow Junko and her adventures on instagram @a_tree_within
Haseya Rising: a poetic lyricist/songstress raised on the Big Island who blends spoken word into conscious hiphop mixed with aloha and soul. You can find her sharing her melodies at different musical events around the island. She is also in the process of recording and releasing her debut EP.
WILDISH: A project by the powerhouse songstress, Lavender. Wildish is an angry feminist, soul-punk-blues, a.k.a.the sounds that occur when the world attempts to cage a wild woman.
