Big Island Climbing Announces Grand Reopening with Exciting Upgrades
Hilo, HI June 24, 2024 – Big Island Climbing is thrilled to announce its grand reopening after a comprehensive remodel. The facility was closed from June 14 to undergo significant upgrades, including new paint, fresh climbing holds, and over 50 new routes. The grand reopening will take place the week of June 24, 2024, starting at 10 am.
The remodeling project featured the expertise of three talented route setters from Volcanic Rock Gym on the Island of Oahu. These setters were brought in as part of their guest route setting program, which invites route setters from across the state and country to periodically refresh their climbing walls. This program ensures that their climbers are continually challenged with new and diverse routes, offering a fresh perspective and a dynamic climbing experience.
“We are incredibly excited to unveil these enhancements to our climbing community,” said Bradley Leighton, founder of Big Island Climbing. “The new routes, improved landing mats, and the addition of new holds and volumes offer a fresh and engaging experience for both our seasoned climbers and newcomers.”
In celebration of the grand reopening, Big Island Climbing is offering special membership pricing throughout the week. This is a fantastic opportunity for new and returning members to take advantage of their upgraded facilities at an exceptional value.
As part of their grand reopening, their nonprofit partner Adventure Centers Hawaii will provide free climbing days and times for underprivileged children and young adults. More information on how local schools and other nonprofit groups can take advantage of these programs can be found on their website, www.adventurecentershawaii.org. Big Island Climbing is also offering Keiki Kamp for the rest of the summer. Drop-off and pick-up are available any time between noon and 5 pm. The camp dates are June 23, til August 23, Monday through Friday. The cost is $5 per hour for members and $10 per hour for non-members. Snacks are available for $5, though participants are welcome to bring their own.
