Fellow Hiloans, we have a delightful new bottle shop in downtown- the Hilo Bottle Shop! On Kilauea Avenue just south of Pizza Hut, this hidden gem opened in early January this year, by former Hilo Bay Cafe and Pineapples alum Courtney Hurt. The shop is a treasure trove of unique and delicious wines, beers, hard ciders and seltzers, boozy kombuchas, and so much more! The shop is bright and welcoming, reflecting Courtney’s personality.
The selection of craft beverages, with many Hawaii-made options, is a gift to those of us who like small-batch and interesting flavor combinations for our pau hana drinks. Each Friday, Courtney features 4-5 selections for tastings, which are open to the public. Some of my personal favorites are the Teton ciders (the apricot is divine!), the Fin du Monde beer for the gentleman in my house, and the rotating selection of crisp white wines. It is a bonus that Courtney is open to ordering in from wineries, breweries and cideries that her customers request (she keeps a list on her white board). But it’s not just liquid refreshments at Hilo Bottle Shop.
There is a great selection of artisanal housewares, such as cutting boards, finger bowls, wax wrappers, serving vessels, glasses and decanters, cookbooks, and more. It really is a lovely addition to our lovely town. Stop by and say “Aloha” to Courtney. And if you go on a Friday, try to make it between 1-6 so you can enjoy tasting some of her fantastic offerings.
