The Hilton Waikoloa Village resort is well known for its gigantic property filled with plenty of water activities, kama’aina day pass deals, and its Disney-esque tram and water taxi options to get you from one side to the other (slightly faster but much cooler than walking). What doesn’t seem to get as much press is the resort’s fine-dining restaurant, Kamuela Provision Company (KPC). Located over on the Lagoon Tower side of the property (the South end), KPC enjoys oceanfront access with stunning sunsets.
Views, check. Food? Check, check!!
And then there is the food. Inside diners may order from the a la carte menu of locally-sourced and inspired dishes including fresh catch, several beef preparations, along with a number of local seafood options and vegetable sides; outside, diners are treated to the Chef’s Menu, which is a three-course fixed price meal with plenty of choices in each category.
Sunset Heart Hands Were a Fail
A friend came to visit from the Mainland, so we stayed a couple of nights at the resort so we could do Kona-side things. One evening we decided to dine at KPC and try the Chef’s Menu. The food and ambiance were fantastic- complete with a postcard-perfect sunset, great local music, and the two of us trying to make “sunset heart hands” as a duo (we failed). Our dinners did not fail- they were wonderful.
We began with a nice amuse bouche of kampachi tartare with taro chips, then enjoyed the fantastic bread dish (we may have asked for seconds) while waiting for our appetizers of ahi tartar[sic] (me) and kabocha and kale salad (friend). Then our entrees came out- local catch (Ono) for me, and jidori chicken for my friend.
Always Room for Dessert!
And finally, the desserts. She went with the deconstructed carrot cake, and I splurged on the chocolate lava dessert that melted- like lava- as the warm creme anglaise hit the sphere. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we proclaimed the evening a success and strolled back to the jungle cruise boat for our ride back to our room. Kamuela Provision Company was a great way to introduce my friend to fine dining, Island style.
